Meeting with Florists

There are a few things to know and be prepared for when meeting with a potential florist for your BIG day! First and foremost, come with pictures of things that inspire your wedding vision. It might be from a bridal magazine or a picture of your favorite flower, or it could be your favorite painting, a piece of vintage fabric, or a postcard. These concepts can help your designer know who you are and will help them translate your personal style at your event.

Second, it is not important to research blooming flowers in September, but it is important to remain open minded about the options if a flower doesn’t really come in the color that was shown in the magazine or if you are on the cusp of a particular growing season and can’t be guaranteed something will be available. There are an abundance of amazing flowers and most designers have access to flowers grown around the world.

If you are willing to hand over your inspiration pieces to your designer and let them run with it, you have become their new best friend! However, most of us are not that way, so third, trust the designer you select to guide you through what a flower can and cannot do and the mechanics of set up, but they will need guidance if you have a specific vision.

Fourth, have your counts ready! Know how many bridesmaids and moms you will be providing flowers for. Then save your sanity and your designers and plan a mock up and final meeting 45 days prior to your wedding to make any quantity changes and last minute design adjustments. Making small changes throughout the process is frustrating for you and them! Happy designers make happy brides!

Have Fun and remember to select a designer you feel gets you! The more articulate you are and the more you have to show them, the better able they will be to read your mind!
