On the Cake Scene...

One of the newest trends that we are sure to see throughout the 2010 wedding season is the bite-sized phenomenon known as the cake ball. This new movement replaces the popular wedding cupcake towers of 2009.

Similar to Bon-bons in appearance, these desserts are made by blending moist cake with rich frosting. The mixture is then rolled into balls and dipped into a variety of confectionary coatings such as white chocolate. Cake balls can also be decorated, or sprinkled, with your choice of coordinating toppings -such as caramel, or coconut. Popular flavors include Italian cream, red velvet, birthday cake, chocolate truffle, carrot cake, peanut butter, banana, strawberry, and chocolate toffee -just to name a few since new combinations are invented nearly every day. Even liquor-infused cake balls are starting to gain in popularity!

This exciting trend allows for brides to choose several different flavors and toppings to serve their guests, aside from the traditional wedding cake. If you are looking for something new and fun with a touch of whimsy for you wedding, we suggest you give cake balls a try. They are sure to delight!
