Sound Advice - Use a Talent Agent
Do you want to book your all-time favorite bar band to play your wedding? Think twice before you do it. They may be everything you want, but they've probably not all you need to ensure high quality wedding entertainment.
For one thing, a band that sounds great in a bar may not be able to emcee the formalities. Also, which band member will you give a deposit to? The one who may be gone by the time your wedding day arrives? What if the band breaks up, or (as often happens) gets a better offer? What kind of contract did you negotiate? Did you have a contract at all? Who will be the replacement act on such short notice? And who's responsible for getting them?
Licensed talent agents provide worry-proof answers for these questions and they have access to entertaining bands and DJs you otherwise would not know about. They can also provide accomplished instrumentalists for your ceremony.
Any contract you sign should absolutely include the words, "talent agency," as well as the agent's license number. Any difference in price between what you pay and what the band or DJ receives constitutes a commission, and necessitates a license. If there is any doubt about whom you are dealing with, call your local Department of Professional Regulation.
When you hire musicians to transform a quiet room into a celebration, you are hiring a service. All services depend upon professional skill and entertainers are no exception. Licensed agents can safely satisfy your musical needs because they know the best wedding entertainers and the legalities of dealing with them.
