Make Your Day Unique
By adding a couple of personal touches to your wedding, you'll offer guests an inside look into your love story and the chance to be part of a meaningful, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Start with the invitations. A picture of you two or a personalized map of the city that includes your favorite hot spots are great ways to set an intimate tone for the big day.
For the ceremony, consider writing your own vows. Don't be shy if you lack creativity - a pastor or wedding guide can help. Think of your favorite romantic song lyrics or poetry to express your commitment.
As your guests file into the reception, seat them at tables with names, not numbers. If you met in a Literature class, send everyone to tables named after authors you read together. It will provide them with a conversation piece and a little insight into an interest you share or how you met.
After the toasts, surprise the guests by raising your glasses to them. Thank them for being there and share your appreciation for all their support. Everyone will love being addressed as an integral part of your day.
Don't forget about the dancing! For your first dance as a married couple, take tango or ballroom classes and relish the opportunity to show off your new moves with a choreographed number. If you're really brave, invite your whole bridal party in on the action!
Personalizing your wedding simply means bringing a little bit of "YOU" into the day. Express yourself!

Warm and Romantic

using live plants...
Marriages may be "made in heaven," but most are based on compromise. So usually are your wedding plans. Perhaps the site you've chosen for your ceremony and reception does not quite measure up to expectations. Flowers, lighting and table settings help establish a warm, romantic feeling, but maybe you want more.
Many plants provide instant decoration for plain or drab rooms - the stately Ficus tree trimmed with small white lights can create an elegant wall treatment. The graceful Areca palm will form an excellent backdrop for photography and a Fern can be used in various applications: individually as a spotlight plant; in a basket holding a ficus tree; or as a leafy addition to any floral arrangements. Flowering plants, bromeliads, or exotic foliage plants provide unlimited possibilities. Just use your imagination.
To find a reputable plant company you can ask your florist or talk to friends who have rented plants or attended parties where the plants stood out.
When you call a plant company, ask about more than just prices. Is the delivery included? What is offered in way of baskets or other decorative containers? Can they show you pictures of other jobs they have already done? Can you see the actual plants you'll be renting?
Most plant rental companies provide a free consultation and some even visit the wedding and reception sites if requested.
Well-placed plants can hide the imperfections at your ceremony or reception site, making your special day "Picture Perfect."

On-Screen Presentation

family memories...
A new high-tech twist to special events is beginning to make its appearance at wedding receptions across the country. It's on-screen audio-visual presentations featuring none other than the bride and groom. Quite popular, it's becoming a common component of wedding day festivities.
You may choose to share the story of your romance by selecting photographs of you and your fiance when you first met, as you fell in love, and as you planned the wedding. Another option is to collect photographs of both the bride and groom growing up. Friends and family members will enjoy being included in your special day, since they often appear in pictures with the bride and groom as they grow from childhood to school age to young adulthood.
Most video companies have the capability for this type of production. They synchronize the images accompanied by music of your choice and create a multi-image video to be presented at your reception, rehearsal dinner, or both. The length and cost of this production is determined by the number of photographs you decide to use. The price will depend on the location of your event, the size of screen(s) needed and the amplification requirements.
On screen presentations are a wonderful way of introducing the bride and groom to each other's family and friends. consider having copies made for parents, grandparents, and loved ones that are unable to attend your wedding.

Wedding Planners
A wedding consultant is an expensive luxury. That's the myth. Here's the reality. You're busy. You work. Your fiance' works. A wedding consultant can save you both time and money, and reduce the stress of planning a wedding.
Experienced consultants have access to hundreds of wedding professionals and speciality services. By utilizing these contacts, they can provide creative and unique recommendations, tailored to suit both your style and your budget.
Their expertise will ensure that you get what you want in terms of quality, quantity and service. Vendors usually give consultants the best possible price considerations in hopes of repeat business.
Many reception locations, caterers and entertainment companies offer coordinating services as part of their full-service packages. While these services can be very useful, they can also be limited to a small list of vendors. A professional wedding consultant will give you individualized attention and provide unbiased opinions on protocol and style.
You can hire a consultant to assist you in planning your entire wedding, or to simply help orchestrate a rehearsal and wedding day. Fees may be charged hourly, at a flat rate or on a commission basis, depending on the consultant and the services you require. Most consultants offer a variety of packages and a la carte services.
Although friends and relatives can certainly assist with wedding plans, leave the details to a professional who can anticipate mishaps, troubleshoot when necessary and provide you the affordable luxury of a stress-free wedding.

Personalized Vows
Depending on your religion you might decide to forgo tradition and create your own wedding vows for your big day. There is no better way to begin your life together than to take the time to really let one another know how you feel.
If you do decide that you want to write your own vows meet with the officiant to discuss what you want to do. Certain vows must be kept in the ceremony in order for the wedding to be legal.
Think about what is truly important for you to express during the ceremony whether it be to each other, your family and friends or just your views on marriage overall. As time progresses many couples have begun to take offense to the wording in traditional wedding vows such as the word "obey". If you are offended by this term create a new phrase that reflects who you are as a couple. Perhaps, "love, respect and trust" fits into our life plan much better.
When you do personalize your wedding vows think about those things that are really important to you such as the meaning of marriage, why you are planning to spend your life together and how you will make this arrangement work for better or worse. Too many times nowadays couples don't realize that marriage is supposed to be a lasting bond of togetherness through the good and the bad times.
Many couples just don't feel comfortable with "until death do us part" anymore. How about something traditional, but less morbid like "as long as we both shall live."

Divorced Parents
If your divorced parents are on good terms, count your blessings. If they are not, or if their relationship is marginal, correct handling of these delicate matters can help avoid any unwanted tensions. There are several alternatives you should consider in planning your church wedding and reception arrangements to accommodate our divorced parents.
According to protocol, the parent with whom you have lived the longest issues the invitations. The other parent is usually not mentioned unless both agree to their names being represented. Protocol, however, does not always create good feelings. Try to include both parent's names on the invitation.
When you're introducing your parents to your future in-laws, it is usually proper to introduce the parent with whom you have lived the longest, then introduce your other parent shortly afterward. The bride's father should always walk his daughter down the aisle, except under extenuating circumstances. If that is not possible, a substitute can stand in for the father. A brother, uncle or close family friend will be fine.
Special church seating arrangements can help smooth rough spots. The bride's mother and her immediate family (parents, husband and children) are seated in the first row. The second row is left empty to afford a better view for the bride's father, who, after giving her away, is seated with his immediate family in the third row. The same seating arrangement pertains to the grooms family if they are divorced. The small amount of time and attention devoted to handling these matters will reward you with a day that is as free of tension as it can possibly be.

Sound Advice - Use a Talent Agent

Do you want to book your all-time favorite bar band to play your wedding? Think twice before you do it. They may be everything you want, but they've probably not all you need to ensure high quality wedding entertainment.
For one thing, a band that sounds great in a bar may not be able to emcee the formalities. Also, which band member will you give a deposit to? The one who may be gone by the time your wedding day arrives? What if the band breaks up, or (as often happens) gets a better offer? What kind of contract did you negotiate? Did you have a contract at all? Who will be the replacement act on such short notice? And who's responsible for getting them?
Licensed talent agents provide worry-proof answers for these questions and they have access to entertaining bands and DJs you otherwise would not know about. They can also provide accomplished instrumentalists for your ceremony.
Any contract you sign should absolutely include the words, "talent agency," as well as the agent's license number. Any difference in price between what you pay and what the band or DJ receives constitutes a commission, and necessitates a license. If there is any doubt about whom you are dealing with, call your local Department of Professional Regulation.
When you hire musicians to transform a quiet room into a celebration, you are hiring a service. All services depend upon professional skill and entertainers are no exception. Licensed agents can safely satisfy your musical needs because they know the best wedding entertainers and the legalities of dealing with them.

Friday or Sunday?
- You'll find everyone you must engage for a wedding service more open to negotiation, sometimes reconsidering price or adding extras.
- Vendors will probably cheer your off-day business by doing an extra-attentive job.
- Wedding services can book Saturdays far in advance, but Fridays and Sundays can require less notice. Choosing a Friday or Sunday also allows you to avoid making several calls to numerous vendors, only to hear, "Sorry, we're booked on that date."
- Getting married on alternative days suits the bride who prefers less pressured planning.
- It's more likely that a hotly requested band, emcee, photographer, videographer or caterer will be on hand for the wedding of your dreams.
- Getting treasured guests into town may be easier if extra or early days are options.
- On a Friday, you'll probably have your wedding in the evening, which means that the ceremony is followed immediately by dinner. This means that you will avoid the extra cost and hassle of a one-to-two-hour interim reception or cocktail party. Having the ceremony and reception back to back may ensure more people at the church ceremony.
- The rehearsal dinner could be easier and less costly for a restaurant if it was scheduled on a Thursday as opposed to a Friday night.

Wedding Gowns - Fashions and Fabrics
Once upon a time there were all kinds of restrictions regarding wedding gowns. Older brides couldn't wear long white dresses and any color other than white spoke volumes about the bride. These days, pretty much anything goes, though the bride must above all be comfortable in the statement she is making with her gown. If you're not comfortable in a veil, you feel too innocent and young, you shouldn't wear one. If white doesn't suit your coloring, wear ivory. The style and fabric of the dress you choose should be right for you. But while we all have a sense of our own style, we might not be well-versed in bridal fabrics, so here's a quick primer.
Satin and silk are by far the most commonly used fabrics for wedding gowns, satin being the most traditional. Pure silk can be quite costly, but silk blends such as charmeuse, crepe de chine, chiffon, organza, taffeta, brocade, broadcloth or peau de sole offer an elegant and less costly alternative. Not to be overlooked, however, are linen, natural cotton, man-made polyester and rayon. The variety of blends, weights and finishes available today provides fabulous options year round.
Gown styles range from beaded extravagance to tailored suits. When selecting your gown, consider the activities of the day and choose accordingly. For example, a princess dress may look beautiful in the salon, but might not serve the purpose for a beach wedding.
The professionals at your bridal salon will be able to help you decide on the style and fabric that best suits your needs, but remember, the determining factor is what makes you feel comfortable and beautiful.

Make Up Tips for a Beautiful Bride

Where do brides get their special glow? Love is the answer, though the right makeup doesn't hurt.
It's natural to be nervous and excited on your wedding day. That's why it is so important to determine the look you want well in advance and to have a makeup rehearsal. Most makeup artists recommend at least one consultation prior to your wedding day. If you plan to do your own makeup, then take time to practice and perfect your special look.
On your wedding day you will glow as on no other day. You won't need strong colors to look sophisticated, but you will need the right colors. If you elect to use the services of a professional makeup consultant, he or she will select colors that will enhance your natural beauty and features. If you are creating your own look, experiment with delicately blended sheer browns, pinks, purples and golds. Brides may also use enhancers such as extended lashes or liner to accentuate the eyes for photographs.
When determining your wedding day make up, there are several factors to take into consideration. Do you want a dramatically trendy look, or something timelessly romantic? Is your wedding during the day or in the evening? If it's during the summer, will you have a tan? Is your dress white or ivory?
Consider whether you will wear your hair down or up and whether you will wear a hair ornament or headpiece. The color of your hair and the color of your skin are what make you unique - select makeup to accentuate your natural beauty.

Signing In...
Time capsules: Use vases, apothecary jars or any other containers and label them for every ten years, beginning with your first anniversary, then 10 years, then 20, all the way to 50. Place note cards and pens on the table with instructions for guests to leave a chose piece of advice or sentiment and then place in a “time capsule” of their choice for you and your partner to open on the appointed year!
Ad libs: Avoid the pressure to write an award-winning guest book note by simply challenging guests to fill in the blanks. You can have individual pieces of paper with various messages to the bride and groom and a few choice words left blank for guests to fill in with their own adjectives and verbs.
Frame it: Select your favorite bridal portrait, engagement picture or any special photo of you and your partner and place in a spacious frame with a large matted area. Provide fine-point Sharpies for guests to simply sign the frame or left a message behind. The keepsake will hang on your wall, proudly displaying your close friends and families heartfelt blessings.

Encore Weddings: Part 1
The engagement, as with any couple, is the beginning of a new path together. If children are in the mix, be sure to speak with them first and inform them of the news before spreading the word with other families and friends. It’s important to keep their needs and emotions toward the forefront of your budding relationship, as children merging into other families can experience a high amount of stress and adjustment.
It’s perfectly fine, and wonderful, to host an engagement party. Only this time, you and your new spouse-to-be should expect to be the hosts versus your parents. There’s no rule to say friends and family cannot host the party, and if it’s offered this is certainly an option to be considered. But do not expect gifts if you are hosting yourself, and instead bask in the glow and celebrate with those you love as you prepare for your new life venture together.
When it comes to the wedding, however, you should go ahead and register for gifts. Couples can keep it a small registry if desired, just know that there will be friends and family who want to share their excitement and will want to give something on behalf of that. There’s also no rule that says encore couples cannot register for wedding gifts, so enjoy!

The Circle of Love - Part 4

Take Good Care
Although diamonds are the hardest natural substance known to man, a hard blow could still chip one, so don't wear your ring when doing rough work. Avoid direct contact with chlorine bleach, and chlorinated pool water, which would pit and discolor the mounting.
To clean your jewelry, regularly soak them for about 30 minutes in either a commercial jewelry cleaner, or a homemade solution comprised of equal parts cold water and ammonia, or a mixture of warm water and mild detergent. Brush the stones gently with an eyebrow brush or soft toothbrush, then rinse thoroughly under warm water and pat dry with a lint-free cloth.
Have your rings checked annually by your jeweler for loose prongs or settings. This is especially important if you have only 4 prongs, because just one broken prong will cause you to lose your stone. These precautions and gentle will pay you back with years of enjoyment and pride in this precious symbol of your union.

The Circle of Love - Part 2

Know Your Diamond
When shopping for a diamond, you will quickly be introduced to the "Four Cs" - cut, color, clarity and carat. All four features can make a dramatic impact on the quality and price of a diamond.
Cut.Cut really refers to the proportions of a diamond and it's facets, as opposed to its shape, which includes round (brilliant), oval, pear, marquise, emerald, square (princess or radiant), heart and triangle. Regardless of its shape, a diamond gets its brilliancy from the cutting and maximizing the reflection of the light.
Color. The best color is no color at all, because it reflects the most light. The Gemological Institute of america (GIA) ranks diamonds on a standard 23-grade scale from D, a perfectly colorless stone, through Z, a light yellow stone.
Clarity. Teh number, color, nature, size and position of natural marks, called inclusions, contained in the gem, define clarity. Inclusions occur naturally during the process of crystallization, when minute traces of minerals are trapped in the diamond. Excellent clarity means light can pass unimpeded through the stone and increases its value. The GIA judges clarity based on a standard 11-point scale from Flawless through Imperfect 3 (see clarity scale.)
Carat. Diamonds are weighed in carats, which may also be expressed as "points," where one carat equals 100 points. a diamond of 50 points, for example, equals 1/2 carat. Diamonds of more than one carat are extremely rare (one in a thousand), and therefore very valuable. Two diamonds of the same size can vary considerably in value depending on the other three factors - cut, color and clarity.

The Circle of Love - Part 1
Understanding the basics about wedding rings
Besides the exquisite beauty of wedding rings, there is a lot to know about metals, diamonds, and the care involved when choosing yours. This "Ring Primer" will help you understand all the basics. KNOW YOUR METALS 14-karat gold is classic, popular, durable enough for daily wear, and can be polished easily. White gold is made mixing pure gold with other white metals such as silver, palladium or zinc, and can be less expensive alternative to platinum. Extremely popular is the last decade or so, platinum is a very white, heavy (which many people like that substantial feel), and durable metal. A "sister" metal to platinum, palladium is a naturally white metal (whiter than white gold), and like platinum, it is strong, non-tarnishing and hypoallergenic. It's also less expensive than platinum, making it a good metal to consider if you like the white metal look. Titanium and tungsten carbide have become popular for men's wedding bands, and both of these metals are extremely durable, 100% hypoallergenic and relatively inexpensive. Titanium can be oxidized to create some brilliant accent colors, creating a very unique and interesting look. Tungsten carbide is twice as hard as steel and almost impossible to scratch, making a great metal for active men. These metals cannot be resized once the ring is made, so order the size carefully.
